Israel opened its household electricity market to competition, and switching away from the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) is now a paperwork-only move: no installation, no disconnection, and the IEC still maintains the grid and handles outages. 7 private suppliers currently offer 20 plans, each defined as a discount off the regulated tariff - up to 21% during specific hours. Since July 2026 you can switch even with a basic meter, though only onto fixed-discount plans.

How the discounts work

Every plan is one of two shapes. A fixed discount takes a modest percentage off every kilowatt-hour, at any hour. A time-of-use discount is much larger but applies only inside a window - typically daytime, or night. The advertised percentage is therefore misleading on its own: a large discount you rarely overlap with is worth less than a small one that always applies. Which shape wins depends entirely on when your household uses electricity - and time-of-use plans require a smart meter, because without 15-minute readings nobody can tell when you consumed.

Get your consumption file from the IEC
